Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how EasyScan ("EasyScan", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects information when you use the EasyScan mobile app, the OBD-II adapters sold for it, and the related websites and services (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.
In short: we collect the account details you give us and the vehicle data you scan, so that the app can show your garage, your scan history and your subscription. Most diagnostic data stays in an encrypted database on your phone. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. You can delete your account, and your data with it, at any time.
1. Information we collect
Account information
- Your name, email address and profile picture when you create an account or sign in with Google.
- Sign-in session data, such as session tokens, device type, IP address and app version, used to keep you signed in and to protect your account.
Vehicle and diagnostic data
- Vehicles you add to your garage, including VIN, make, model and year.
- Data read from your vehicle through the OBD-II adapter, such as diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), live sensor readings (PIDs), freeze-frame and readiness data.
- Information about the adapter you connect, such as its identifier and firmware version.
Subscription and payment information
- Your subscription plan, its status and your transaction history.
- Payments are handled by our payment provider, the Nass payment gateway. We receive only the result of a payment, such as its reference, amount and status. We do not receive or store your full card number or card security code.
Device permissions
- Bluetooth: used to find and connect to your OBD-II adapter.
- Location: used for trip tracking features, and on Android because the system requires it for Bluetooth scanning. Background location is used only while a trip is being recorded. Trip routes are stored on your device.
- Camera: used to scan a VIN or barcode when you choose to.
You can turn off any of these permissions in your device settings. Features that depend on them will then stop working.
Support communications
If you contact us, we keep the messages and any files you send us, such as diagnostic logs, so we can help you.
2. How we use information
- To provide the Service: reading and explaining vehicle data, saving your garage, and syncing your data between devices.
- To manage your account, subscription and payments.
- To generate plain-language explanations of trouble codes. To do this we send the code and basic vehicle details (the make, model and year) to Google's Gemini AI service. We do not send your name, email, VIN or any other account detail with these requests, and the explanations we get back are stored on our servers so that the same code does not have to be sent again.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix problems.
- To answer your support requests and send you important notices about your account or the Service.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. Storage on your device
Much of your diagnostic data, including scan history, logs and trips, is kept in an encrypted database on your device. Its encryption key is kept in your device's secure storage. Log files are shared with us only if you choose to send them.
4. How we share information
We share information only with:
- Service providers, who may use your information only to provide their services to us:
- Google — sign-in with Google, and the Gemini AI service used for trouble-code explanations.
- Nass payment gateway — processing subscription payments.
- Our hosting and database providers — running the EasyScan servers and storing your account data.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or when we need to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or EasyScan.
- A new owner of EasyScan, if the business is merged or sold. This policy would continue to apply to your information.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information from our systems within 30 days. We keep some records longer only when the law requires it, for example payment and transaction records for tax and accounting. Backups are overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
6. Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to our systems is restricted and data on your device is stored encrypted. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction: you can view and edit your profile in the app, or ask us for a copy of your data.
- Deletion: you can delete your account at any time. See Delete your account.
- Permissions: you can withdraw Bluetooth, location or camera access in your device settings.
To make a request, email [email protected] from the email address on your account.
8. Children
The Service is not meant for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our servers and service providers may be located in countries other than the one you live in. When we transfer your information, we protect it as described in this policy.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or by email.
11. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or your data, email [email protected].
